Eye Examination
Here at Alan Bowen Optometrist, you can expect the best quality eye care from our team of experts. We feel that our experienced professionals, longer appointment times and specialist equipment allows us to really take care of you.
In your 30 minute eye examination, your Optician will thoroughly examine your eyes and test your vision. You will be asked about any family history of eye problems, medications taken (as some of these can affect your vision) and a few questions about your day-to-day routine to help your Optician fully understand your visual needs. You will be asked to look at a letter chart whilst the Optician places different lenses in front of your eye. They will then ask you which lenses make the letter chart clearer and will use further techniques to refine the prescription.
Our enhanced eye examination includes an OCT (ocular coherence tomography) and is 45 minutes long. This non-invasive imaging test produces a high quality, 3D scan of the back of the eye highlighting each of the retina's distinctive layers. Many conditions, such as diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration, can be detected early on by the OCT and allows our Optician to identify any anomalies and monitor any changes very closely leading to a much faster, and more effective, treatment for you.
Once your eye exam is complete, your optician will explain the results to you, including any updates to your prescription. They’ll also be happy to answer any questions you have, as well as taking the time to recommend suitable products for your needs and lifestyle.
If glasses are required, your Optometrist will then discuss your visual requirements with your Dispensing Optician who will guide you through the process of selecting a frame and give advice on the best lenses for your prescription.
The cost of our standard eye exam is £39.00
The cost of the enhanced eye exam is £55.00 (£25 supplement for any NHS patients)
