Alan qualified as an Optometrist in 1983 from Aston University, he started working for Hepworth and Hall, Pemberton in 1984. Alan then bought his own practice in Up Holland from a Mr Halliwell in 1991. He has only very recently sold this practice to Brian Gleave, his cousin, who is the owner of the group. Alan will continue to work at the practice with slightly reduced hours.
Alan loves to play golf and travel in his spare time.
Alex qualified from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) with a BSc in Optometry in June 1995 and passed the professional qualifying examinations of the General Optical Council in June 1996.
Since then he has worked for both multiples and independent practices full time, owning his own practice from June 2005 to November 2012. Alex is involved with the charity Vision Aid Overseas where he leads teams of optometrists to third world countries, including Ethiopia, Ghana and India, to carry out free eye examinations and provide glasses to those who would otherwise not be able to access or afford them. In November 2019 he lead my 10th trip!
He is also heavily involved in the Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Local Optical Committee which promotes eye care in the community and liaises with other local professional bodies to improve the overall provision of health services.
In his spare time Alex is a keen cyclist and tries to get out a couple of times per week. He also enjoys live music and goes to as many events as possible.
Racheal completed her masters in science of Optometry at Manchester University. She currently works at Manchester Royal Eye hospital and works for Alan Bowen Optometrist as a Locum Optician.
Outside of work Rachael is a keen runner and also enjoys baking.
Jessica has worked in optics for 17 years. She started out as on Optical receptionist and went on to complete her professional dispensing qualification in 2010 at Anglia Ruskin University.
Jessica has worked for other companies gaining experience in dispensing, managing and also training apprentices in optics and customer service before joining the team in 2019.
Jessica is the manager and dispensing optician at the Alan Bowen Optometrist in UpHolland and works along side Jean and Kirsty. Jessica loves spending time with her family and friends.
Adrian started his career in Optics for Hepworth and Hall Opticians in 1993. He qualified as a Dispensing Optician before also completing his Contact Lens Certificate some years later. Adrian is the General Manager for Hepworth and Hall and undertakes the day to day running of the practices, whilst dispensing quality spectacles. He also hosts specialist clinics for contact lenses, dry eye and has recently obtained his certification in colorimetry.
Outside of work Adrian enjoys supporting the town’s football and rugby teams and gets down to the stadium whenever he can.
David started working at Hepworth and Hall in 2007 as a trainee Dispensing Optician and in 2010 completed his Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing at Bradford College. David is now a fully qualified Dispensing Optician with over 10 years experience working in practice.
In his current role as Sales Director, he liaises with suppliers enabling us to offer our customers great value for money without compromising on quality.
David enjoys playing golf and is an active member at Deanwood Golf Club. He also loves to get involved with the local community sports teams.
Kirsty worked in customer service up until having her 3 sons. Kirsty then worked part time for Alan Bowen Opticians and has continued to do so for the last 2.5 years. Kirsty has recently taken a more full time role and is an Optical advisor and receptionist working with Jean and Jessica at the UpHolland practice.
Kirsty enjoys days out with her family and looking after her array of furry animals!
Jean worked in accounts before starting a family and then worked for her own family business for many years, gaining lots of customer service experience. She then started to work for Hepworth and Hall in 1997 as a receptionist but over many years her skills have developed and now she also glazes the spectacles in the lab.
Jean is now mainly based at the Upholland practice and works with Jessica and Kirsty on reception.
In her spare time Jean loves to read, go walking and enjoys cooking with her daughter Clare.
